Tim Burton Set to Direct a Modern Take on the 1958 Film, ‘Attack of the 50 Foot Woman’

According to Deadline, Tim Burton (‘Corpse Bride’) will direct a new version of ‘Attack of the 50 Foot Woman’, a 1958 science-fiction film, with a screenplay by Gillian Flynn, known for scripts such as ‘Gone Girl’ (2014) and ‘Utopia’ (2020).

Directed by Nathan Hertz from a screenplay by Mark Hanna, the original movie starred Allison Hayes, William Hudson, and Yvette Vickers. The story follows a suffering housewife (Allison Hayes) who encounters aliens that make her grow and grow until she reaches 50 feet tall.

HBO made a new version of the film in 1993, directed by Christopher Guest and starring Daryl Hannah and Daniel Baldwin. The original film also inspired the character Ginormica, voiced by Reese Witherspoon, in ‘Monsters vs. Aliens’ (2009).

At the moment, there are no further details about this film, which will be produced by Burton, Andrew Mittman, and Tommy Harper, with Kai Dolbashian in executive production. The filmmaker has just finished shooting the sequel ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’, starring Michael Keaton, Jenna Ortega, Catherine O’Hara, and Winona Ryder. This film will hit theaters on September 6, 2024.
